CuraWest Hosts Open House
Denver Community Tours Gorgeous New Facility

On June 1 CuraWest welcomed Denver community members to an Open House to celebrate the grand opening of Denver’s newest drug and alcohol detox facility. Roughly 70 people showed up to tour the new facility, which is on the fifth floor of Porter Medical Plaza near the University of Denver. The center boasts 26, mostly private beds with stunning views of the Rocky Mountains, Colorado foothills and downtown Denver skyline.

Visitors were able to meet with clinical staff, learn more about CuraWest’s comprehensive addiction treatment program, grab some CuraWest swag and explore the center, which includes serene client lounge spaces, a dining hall, group therapy rooms, individual therapist offices and an outdoor smoking patio. The modern interior design, architecture and views were very well-received by guests.

“We are incredibly excited to offer Denver and the surrounding communities a medical detox and recovery program that blends expert medical care with the comforts and amenities that lead to a solid foundation for long term recovery,” said Marco Merida, the President and COO of Guardian Recovery Network (GRN), the parent company of CuraWest.

Guardian is a well-respected nationwide network of substance use disorder detoxification and treatment programs. For 15 years, Guardian has been providing high-quality addiction treatment. Guardian programs combat addiction utilizing a powerful combination of evidence-based clinical therapies, and 12-Step program involvement. The network has facilities for every level of clinical care, including medical detox, residential inpatient, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs. CuraWest is Guardian’s first facility in the state of Colorado.

Guardian strategically picked Denver for its newest facility in response to Colorado’s growing need for quality drug and alcohol treatment programs. Colorado, in particular Denver, has seen a disturbing surge in drug and alcohol abuse in recent years, largely attributed to both the Coronavirus pandemic and the nationwide opioid epidemic.

According to Colorado State’s Health Department, drug overdose deaths totaled 1,223 in 2020, up nearly 20 percent from 2019. The National Institute on Drug Addiction reported that for every 100 residents in the State of Colorado, 45.1 opioid prescriptions were written in 2018. In addition to opioid abuse, alcohol abuse has had alarming consequences. Denver Public Health recently reported that one out of every four adults in Denver binge drinks on a regular basis. According to Denver Health’s report, 30,000 people came to the Denver Health emergency room for a substance-abuse related issue; of those, the leading cause — 36 percent — was alcohol abuse. Another 16,708 people, or 46 per day, were admitted to Denver CARES, the community’s non-medical detoxification unit. And, according to national transportation statistics, approximately 38 percent of fatal motor vehicle crashes in Denver involved alcohol.

Denver’s Mayor, Michael B. Hancock, has been a vocal advocate for drug and alcohol treatment programs.

“Substance misuse touches every one of us in some way,” he said in a press release. “To correct the social and economic devastation this epidemic has caused our people, it will take a truly united effort.”

CuraWest will focus on helping individuals take their first steps into recovery by helping them get physically sober and stabilized. The inpatient medical detoxification program utilizes medication assisted treatment to help individuals safely and comfortably withdraw from drugs and alcohol.

CuraWest recognizes, however, that medical detox is not just about physical stabilization, it is also about setting up a firm foundation on which to launch individuals into continued recovery. CuraWest’s professional staff introduces clients to therapy, 12-Step recovery and holistic treatments, such as yoga and guided meditation. The program begins to tackle every aspect of addiction — physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. Following medical detox, CuraWest clients are encouraged to continue to the next appropriate level of care; and we help our clients make that transition.
