Taking the First Step Safely

Deciding to stop using substances is courageous. But doing it safely is essential. Medical detoxification is the critical first step in recovery—a medically supervised process that helps your body safely clear substances while our experienced team manages withdrawal symptoms and keeps you comfortable.

At Guardian Recovery, we understand that detox can feel overwhelming. You might be worried about withdrawal, unsure what to expect, or hesitant to take this first step. We’re here to tell you: you don’t have to do this alone, and you don’t have to suffer. Our medical detox program provides 24/7 care, proven comfort measures, and compassionate support to help you through this crucial beginning of your recovery journey.

Recovery With a
Client-Centered Approach

At CuraWest our main priority is ensuring that each individual client is equipped with the tools they need to maintain solid, long-term sobriety. The road to recovery will undeniably look different for everyone — no two experiences with active addiction are the same, therefore no two journeys of addiction recovery will be identical. At CuraWest we focus on providing highly individualized care every step of the way. One of the most effective ways to make sure each client is getting access to the personalized clinical care they deserve is by assigning a case manager upon admission.

Covered by Insurance?

Each client is assigned a case manager who will be responsible for paying close attention to their unique needs and individualized clinical requirements. Case managers will help clients develop a personalized treatment plan complete with recovery-related goals, and will check in regularly to make sure that these goals are being adequately met in a timely manner. In other words, the main role of a case manager is to ensure that clients are staying on track, and that they have access to all of the resources they need to make the most of their recovery.

The Role of the Case Manager

It is not uncommon for clients and their loved ones to become slightly overwhelmed by all of the moving parts that go hand-in-hand with early recovery. One of the main roles of the case manager is to help alleviate stress by illuminating all of the ins and outs of the early recovery process and making things as simple and straightforward as possible. Case managers communicate with the client and their loved ones, acting as a primary source of contact between the treatment center and the family. The case manager will truly “manage” the clinical care of the client to ensure that he or she is receiving all of the necessary help, resources and services.

Case managers are a crucial component of every effective medically monitored detox program and residential treatment program. They come to know each of the clients they work with on a highly personal basis, thoroughly understand their unique requirements and their recovery-related strengths and weaknesses.

The roles the case managers serve include:

  • Working closely alongside the clinical, medical and therapeutic CuraWest team to ensure that the needs of the client are being met and they are receiving appropriate care for these unique needs.
  • Conducting in-depth assessments on a regular basis to gaga where the client is in their recovery process and to make sure that all needs are being met.
  • Helping with finances. Case managers can often help the client and his or her family determine which financial resources and benefits are available.
  • Corresponding with the family members of the client, keeping them informed about progress made in treatment and any changes to the initial treatment plan that may arise along the way.
  • Guiding family members through what could be an emotionally strenuous time by offering insight, support, encouragement and a list of applicable resources.
  • Helping the client work through and understand real-life situations that are likely to arise outside of a treatment setting.
  • Helping to prepare the client for fully independent living by providing vocational training (such as resume building and interview skills) and continuing to instill life skills that could prove to be beneficial for someone who is new to sobriety (like applying for food stamps).
  • Organizing recreational activities that are both healthy and conducive to long-term sobriety.
  • Developing a solid aftercare plan, which will help the client prepare for the next appropriate level of clinical care in order to maintain long-term sobriety.

When working with a case manager, it is crucial that he or she has extensive training and these key competencies:

  • Thoroughly understanding the disease model of addiction.
  • Being able to explain the importance of treatment to the client.
  • Recognizing the importance of family and other support networks and include these support networks in the recovery process.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge and of and understand all existing and commonly utilized addiction treatment modalities.
  • Understanding why an integrated, multidisciplinary approach to addiction treatment is essential.
  • Understanding how cultural dissimilarities might play a role in addiction and recovery.
  • Coming from a place of understanding, compassion and respect at all times.
  • Being able to effectively communicate with the client and with his or her family members, thoroughly informing them of all progress made as well as all potential setbacks.

Early recovery can be quite challenging, there is certainly no question about that. The case manager will ensure that the client is staying on the right track in his or her recovery, and will check in regularly to make sure that progress is being consistently made.

A Sustainable Plan
Post-Treatment

When our clients first come to us, they are generally somewhat lost and unsure of what steps to take in order to better themselves and prepare themselves for a sober and fulfilling future. Our case managers will work with clients on a one-on-one basis, helping them determine what their treatment goals are and the ways in which to best achieve those goals. Once the multi-phased treatment program has come to an end, clients will transition back into fully independent living. Doing so is far less daunting when there is a solid plan of action in place, and when clients know exactly which steps they will be taking in order to stay sober.
Still, the transition from treatment to a return to full personal freedom can be overwhelming. Our case managers do everything in their power to make the transition as seamless as possible, helping clients with everything from applying for food stamps and resume building to looking for affordable housing and continuing to work towards financial independence. At CuraWest we know that every aftercare will need to be different – because each and every client is exceptionally unique. Everyone who walks through our doors will leave with a different set of recovery-related goals. Case managers help clients develop those goals and help them to achieve them, while offering support and guidance to clients and their families every step of the way.

Compassionate Care
Is Our Top Priority

Case management is a key component of our comprehensive continuum of care. At CuraWest we want to ensure that each client is treated exactly for what they are — an individual. All of the case managers we have on staff have years of experience, and they have all either watched a loved one suffer at the hands of addiction or they have overcome a severe addictive disorder themselves. This allows for a unique perspective that is always coupled with an immense amount of respect and compassion. When it comes to case management, communication is truly key. Even if a client is not yet able to communicate what he or she needs, it is the case manager’s job to intuitively read the situation.
CuraWest offers a level of clinical care truly unlike any you will find in a state-run facility or traditional hospital setting. Couple our incredible support staff with our private, homestyle and you have a comprehensive, individualized curriculum of care that not only ensures clients stay sober long-term, but ensures that they have a wonderful time doing it.
