Taking the First Step Safely

Deciding to stop using substances is courageous. But doing it safely is essential. Medical detoxification is the critical first step in recovery—a medically supervised process that helps your body safely clear substances while our experienced team manages withdrawal symptoms and keeps you comfortable.

At Guardian Recovery, we understand that detox can feel overwhelming. You might be worried about withdrawal, unsure what to expect, or hesitant to take this first step. We’re here to tell you: you don’t have to do this alone, and you don’t have to suffer. Our medical detox program provides 24/7 care, proven comfort measures, and compassionate support to help you through this crucial beginning of your recovery journey.

Aftercare Planning For
Long-Term Recovery

Medically monitored detox is only the very first step on the long-term road to addiction recovery. It is a crucial first step, but in order for sobriety to be maintained long-term medical detox must be followed up with a comprehensive continuum of clinical care. Having a stable and reasonable aftercare plan in place will undeniably help an individual who is new to addiction recovery continue to progress rather than backtrack. At CuraWest we are dedicated to helping each and every one of our clients develop a solid foundation while in medical detox, on which they can successfully build the remainder of their recovery. We believe that medical detox should be about much more than physical stabilization and safe, comfortable withdrawal; at CuraWest, we prepare our clients thoroughly for the incredible road ahead.
In the vast majority of cases, inpatient treatment will be the next step once a client has been deemed physically stable and ready to enter into the next appropriate level of clinical care. At CuraWest we offer a residential treatment program, which detox clients are able to transition into once they have achieved physical stabilization. It is crucial that the transition from medical detox to inpatient treatment is quick and seamless. Individuals who are new to recovery and do not transition directly into a higher level of care very often relapse within the first several weeks. While a client is engaged in the residential portion of our program a new aftercare plan is developed — one that includes steps the client will take once they have transitioned back into independent living.

Upon admission to our program, each individual client will be assigned a case manager who will walk them through every step of the early recovery process. Case managers will work with medical and therapeutic staff members and the client him or herself in developing individualized treatment goals. Case managers will also help clients develop aftercare plans to implement after each stage of their recovery journey. These plans include these personalized treatment goals as well as a clear-cut plan of action for the continuation of addiction treatment.

Relapse Prevention and Life Skills Training

At CuraWest we help set a solid foundation for lasting recovery by providing two distinct and essential levels of clinical care. We combine comprehensive addiction education with therapeutic intervention, teaching clients the life skills, healthy coping mechanisms and relapse prevention skills they will need to utilize throughout the remainder of their recovery journeys. We also work closely with the family members of our clients, ensuring that they stay informed of progress and have access to all of the resources and support they need.
Relapse prevention is a major component of every successful aftercare program. At CuraWest we believe that relapse prevention skills should be taught as soon as a client enters into a medical detox program. We offer our clients daily group therapy sessions, during which relapse prevention is a predominant topic of conversation. We also offer one-on-one therapy sessions where clients can express their concerns and work through any underlying issues in a safe, supportive and confidential environment. We also offer family therapy services which can be conducted over the phone or in person if the loved ones of a client would like to discuss their aftercare plans more in-depth.

At CuraWest we provide aftercare planning services that cannot be found in any state-run facility or traditional hospital setting. We tailor aftercare plans to meet the unique needs of each individual client, ensuring that medical detox and residential treatment are just the very first steps on a lifelong road of fulfilled and meaningful recovery. This aftercare plan will take numerous factors into account, including psychological needs, current location and desired location, vocational needs, the circumstances of the family, personal history with substance use and substance abuse treatment and personal history of relapse.

Life After Medical Detox

Addiction recovery is a lifelong journey. Our highly experienced and compassionate clinical and therapeutic staff members and our case managers will work closely alongside each individual client, detailing the steps necessary to staying sober long-term. In order to create an effective and viable aftercare program, our staff members connect each client with the resources he or she needs for a successful recovery. Depending on the unique needs of each client our case managers will help them develop a realistic and long-term continuum of clinical care.
Some of the resources we provide include:

Inpatient Treatment

Inpatient treatment provides the most intensive and effective level of clinical care, one that is ideal for clients who have struggled to stay sober after detox in the past or who are suffering from underlying mental health disorders or unresolved trauma. At CuraWest we offer a residential program that is both individualized and effective. We understand that the unique needs of each individual client will dictate what additional services they require, therefore we offer dual diagnosis treatment options and employ therapeutic professionals who specialize in trauma-informed care. The duration of our residential program varies depending on the unique needs of each individual client. Clients can stay engaged in inpatient treatment for between 3 and 21 days.

Intensive Outpatient or Outpatient Treatment

IOP and OP provide lower levels of clinical care than inpatient treatment. We often recommend that an individual who has just completed inpatient treatment transfer to one of these levels of clinical care, where they will continue with individual and group therapy sessions while continuing to develop crucial life and relapse prevention skills. Clients will have the opportunity to identify and work through relapse triggers in a safe and supportive environment, while learning how to effectively communicate any adverse emotions that should arise. IOP and OP are extremely beneficial in helping clients continue to build on the foundation they laid in medical detox and residential treatment.

Sober Living Arrangements

Once an individual has completed inpatient treatment, it is highly recommended that they transfer into a sober living home in Denver, Colorado. Sober living homes offer a greater amount of personal freedom but work to keep men and women who are new to sobriety accountable for their own actions. Reputable sober living homes will enforce a strict set of rules and guidelines, including keeping up with personal chores, getting a job or going back to school, attending at least one 12 step meeting on a daily basis, and – of course – staying completely sober. Sober living is an excellent way to safely and slowly transition back into fully independent living.

Therapist & Psychiatrist Referrals

It is recommended for — even after graduating from inpatient and outpatient treatment — those who are new to recovery continue with therapeutic care, and psychiatric care whenever necessary. We provide quality referrals to those in need, ensuring that clients will be receiving adequate care within their own community.

Additional Support Groups

We help clients seamlessly transition into support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous as a crucial component of their aftercare plans. We bring AA and NA meetings into our medical detox facility and transport residential clients to meetings regularly so they have the opportunity to meet and mingle with those who are already program members and have years of solid sobriety under their belts. However, we understand the 12 Step model does not resonate with everyone. We encourage our clients to explore alternative options during their time in treatment.
