Together We Will
Break the Cycle

If you have been suffering at the hands of an Oxycontin use disorder, entering into a medical detox program is a necessary first step on the road to recovery. At CuraWest we combine around-the-clock medical care with therapeutic and holistic modalities, creating a unique and effective detox experience. Once you have been physically stabilized in the detox portion of our program, you have the option of transitioning into the residential portion of our program, dramatically increasing your chances of maintaining Oxycontin addiction recovery.

Over the course of the past two decades, rates of opioid abuse and addiction throughout the United States have been continuously skyrocketing. The National Institute on Drug Abuse found that there were roughly 67,300 overdose deaths throughout the country in the year 2018. Opioid-involved drug overdose deaths rose from 21,088 in 2010 to 46,802 in 2018. Oxycontin is a potent prescription opioid, one that is frequently prescribed and frequently abused. Many individuals who ultimately develop a serious Oxycontin dependence disorder will begin by taking the amount prescribed by a professional physician. Because it is so commonly prescribed, many individuals mistakenly believe that Oxycontin is entirely safe to use. On the contrary, this potent opioid narcotic is extremely habit-forming. The transition from abuse to addiction can occur rapidly. Once addiction takes hold, medical detox will be necessary, seeing as the withdrawal symptoms associated with Oxycontin can be uncomfortable and can cause serious complications if left untreated.

At CuraWest we have carefully developed an effective and comprehensive program of Oxycontin detox, geared towards providing people of all ages and walks of life with safe and pain-free withdrawal. We are a private, homestyle addiction recovery center, and we prioritize the comfort and well-being of each individual client above everything else. We understand how physically and psychologically devastating Oxycontin addiction can be when left untreated. Our team of highly experienced and deeply compassionate professionals works tirelessly to ensure that all personal needs and requirements are being adequately met.

About Oxycontin

Oxycontin is the brand name for a prescription medication that contains the drug oxycodone. Oxycodone is a primary ingredient in numerous prescription painkillers, and it is very effective in treating moderate to severe pain when taken as prescribed. In many instances, Oxycontin is prescribed to be taken in conjunction with non-narcotic pain relievers like ibuprofen or aspirin. In most cases medical professionals will not prescribe this potent medication as a long-term solution for chronic pain, but rather, as a short-term solution for acute pain (such as pain that occurs as the result of a significant surgery or a severe accident).

Oxycontin is one of the most frequently abused prescription medications. The American Journal of Psychiatry published a study titled, “Prescription OxyContin Abuse Among Patients Entering Addiction Treatment.” The study took an in-depth look at 157 treatment programs throughout the US in 2007, finding that roughly 5 percent of all patients were admitted exclusively for Oxycontin abuse or addiction. Of these patients, 86 reported using the drug to “get high,” and 78 percent of patients had previously been admitted to treatment. Since then, the rates of Oxycontin abuse and addiction have continued to climb.

Oxycontin Addiction Signs & Symptoms

When it comes to Oxycontin addiction there are several consistent signs and symptoms to look for. Common symptoms of Oxycontin addiction include:

  • Sedation and increased fatigue/drowsiness
  • Low blood pressure, which can lead to dizziness and lightheadedness
  • Stomach issues like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation
  • Persistent headaches
  • Continued use of Oxycontin despite an accumulation of negative personal consequences
  • Financial and legal issues
  • Various attempts to obtain more Oxycontin, which might look like stealing medications from family members and friends or “doctor shopping.”
  • A slow building of a physical tolerance, meaning more Oxycontin will be required in order for the same result to be produced
  • Withdrawal symptoms upon ceased use

Oxycontin Withdrawal Signs & Symptoms

According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine, the most common initial signs of Oxycontin withdrawal include a wide range of flu-like symptoms, such as a runny nose, stomach cramping, insomnia, restlessness and agitation, profuse sweating, yawning and watery eyes. The late onset symptoms of Oxycontin withdrawal are significantly more serious, and can prove to be dangerous if left untreated.

Oxycontin withdrawal symptoms include:

  • Severe abdominal cramping
  • Nausea, vomiting and diarrhea
  • Insomnia and night sweats
  • Chills, fever and tremors
  • Severe psychiatric symptoms like anxiety and depression, which can lead to panic attacks or suicidal ideation (dangerous if left untreated)
  • In rare cases, respiratory issues, heart palpitations, seizures and stroke

While the symptoms of Oxycontin withdrawal are not generally life-threatening, medically monitored detox is always a necessary step on the lifelong road to recovery. At CuraWest we have developed an Oxycontin treatment program that is both integrated and individualized. The treatment methods that work for one individual might not work quite as well for another. Upon admission, each client undergoes an in-depth evaluation which will help us determine which treatment methods will be the most beneficial. Our top priority is providing comfort from withdrawal symptoms in a safe, supportive and exceptionally tranquil environment — one conducive to long-term healing.

Why is Medical Detox Necessary?

One of the most severe and long-lived symptoms of Oxycontin withdrawal are intense psychological cravings. In many cases, these cravings overwhelm good judgement and lead an individual straight back to use before the withdrawal process has come to an end. At CuraWest, we utilize numerous treatment methods including Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT), during which medications like Suboxone are carefully administered. These medications help to reduce psychological cravings while eliminating physical symptoms of withdrawal. Not only do we focus extensively on physical stabilization, but we work hard to ensure that a solid recovery-based foundation is being established. We provide therapeutic care to our clients and introduce them to the remainder of the recovery process. Our clients have the option of transitioning into the residential portion of our program once they have been physically stabilized in our medical detox center.
